Hapa, according to Wikipedia, is a person of mixed Asian or Pacific Islander heritage. These days, Hapas are very popular in Asia, particularly in the entertainment industry. I think it’s no surprise that they get attention because the mixed heritage usually results in good looks plus growing up abroad means that they are very good at speaking in English, which most Hapa celebrities in Asia make use of as they get hosting/presenting gigs in the region.
With Hapas making their mark in different countries here in Asia, I thought it would be good to share with everyone seven handsome Hapas in the entertainment industry:
With Daniel in this list, my Daniel 2.0 aka Jason Godfrey will definitely not be far behind. Jason is a model, TV presenter and a columnist for a Malaysian newspaper. Apart from the good looks, this half-Filipino, half-Canadian guy writes really well (which is something I really like about him). Of course, it can’t be denied that he is hot too.
Another handsome Hapa is part Korean and part American actor/model Dennis Oh. This guy is often confused with Daniel Henney because he works in Korea and both are part Korean and American. Personally, I think he looks more like Brandon Routh than Daniel Henney. I thought he was cute as the hot chef from Witch Yoo Hee although I haven't seen him in anything else since that show.
I've seen Jay Hayden before in the movie House Bunny (the guy who was bugging Rumer Willis) but I had no idea that he was half-Korean, half-Irish American. He currently stars in the series Battleground and has a YouTube channel called Rapid Fire Tabloid News. Funny and good looking, I can't resist that -- oh wait, he's married. Sorry girls!
I first spotted Henry Golding on AXN’s Cash Cab. I looked him up on Google after watching the episode he was in. Henry is half-English and half Iban. He’s a model and TV host in Malaysia. I found him very charming in his two appearances on Hot Guys Who Cook on Diva Universal. It’s probably out on YouTube somewhere if you want to see it.
The show Hot Guys Who Cook also introduced me to George Young. I noticed him when they showed that TV spot where he said “Hot Guys Who Cook …naked.” I think any girl would do a double take when someone says that with a straight face while he’s shown getting ready to cook. There’s so much I want to share about this England-born half-Greek, half-Malaysian Chinese TV presenter, model and actor but I’ll reserve that for a future post. He’s handsome, funny and a nerd, a combination that I find very attractive. Let’s leave it at that for now.
Last but not the least, there is Russel Wong. Growing up I remember seeing him in The Joy Luck Club and from then on I've recognized him in appearances on TV and other movies. He may have been the signature Asian bad guy a lot of times but it was nice to see an active Asian actor in Hollywood. His picture may show him being older now but this half-Chinese, half-Dutch American was actually (and still is) very handsome.
There you have it, seven handsome Hapas! What did you guys think of my list? Are there any other guys that I forgot to mention? Leave me a message and let me know what you think!
