Nanay at 90

My grandmother recently celebrated her 90th birthday. We had a family-only (but considering how many we were, still a relatively big) celebration with my cousins and our other relatives from that side of that family. It was so nice to see her very happy to see everyone on her big day.

My sister did a video interviewing our grandmother about her birthday and her life. I loved how she replied to the question of what it was that she still wanted after 90 years of life. She replied in Tagalog but what she said was, “To be able to face life’s trials with an open heart.  Even with life's challenges I try not to think about them too much.  I don't waver in my faith because I know that with everything I have God with me.“

I hope that I can look at life in the same way she does more often. Sometimes I can be more emo for my own good.

Family reunions always revolve around our Nanay. She’s the one that holds us all together. I can only imagine how hard it would be for everyone to get together if/when she’s gone. With 10 children, 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild all linked to this one woman, we are all hoping and praying for more years to come with her.  Our family just would not be the same without her.
