The Beauty of Snail Mail

When I was younger, I had a "pen pal" from Australia. She was the niece of a friend of my parents who was from there. I always thought that it was amazing that I could communicate with someone from a different part of the world. I loved the idea that my letters, my words could also reach a place where I have never been. My only frustration back then was that the mail took too long to get to my friend and to me.

I thought that having email would make things easier but sometimes it doesn't. I mean, yes, when you need an immediate answer it is very useful but in spite of the fact that you can attach photos, video and all that, it still feels a little impersonal to me. It still doesn't have the same effect as a letter that you get in the mail.

I can't even begin to describe how excited I was when I heard my friend was sending me something in the mail. It was just exciting to wait for it to arrive the way I used to when I was younger. I was also touched when I read that my friend considered me one of those people who deserved a trip to the post office to send a card to. I was really touched to read that.

Thank you again D for this card, I really appreciate it!

That's cute! Why did we never think about that? We should start writing to each other! :)
