Pandemic Diaries: Disappointments

One of the things that I have learned during this pandemic is that sometimes, life can turn on a dime and lead to things that we never expected. For the most part, it has led me to things, to life, that I am not used to. It has also led other people to different situations in their lives and, just like me, they are forced to act (or should I say react) the best way they can because of the circumstances.

It surprises me how this pandemic has brought out the best and worst in people. Some people surprised me with how strong they have been through these times and who still make the effort to help other people out in these crazy times. But then there are also those people who surprised me in a not-so-positive way by acting in ways I never thought they would before this pandemic. People who are taking advantage of the situation and using it to get ahead of others. It is disappointing to realize a person’s true nature this way, but it also helps me to see which people I need to keep at a distance or be careful of in the future.

Unfortunately, getting surprised by people’s true nature usually means that things end up happening in ways we do not expect. I think that there is no such thing as normal anymore. There is no such thing as the standard result for certain actions. The pandemic has changed so much about everything that it should not be a surprise the effect it has on our daily lives.

Life these days has been hard for a lot of people, me included. There are so many things that I wanted or expected that did not turn out the way that I had planned. Every day there are things that I discover that have changed due to the pandemic that makes me have to stop and rethink the way I have been doing things. If there is anything that you can be sure about with this pandemic it is that you should always expect the unexpected. Anything can happen.

I have been frustrated about so many things in this past year. There is so much that I want to do but things have changed so much these days that I cannot make things happen. Either that or there are just too many obstacles in my way that it is best not to even try anymore. I know a lot of what I share in this post may not make that much sense since I cannot go into too much detail but long story short, this pandemic has put a damper on a lot of my plans. It is like God is saying, “Go make new plans.” Or maybe, “Try to plan your way around this one.”

The best thing to do these days is to adapt. To keep moving forward, but also to know when to change directions when it is necessary. It is important to be able to listen, to learn, and be more discerning of everything that is happening around us so that we can navigate this pandemic in a way that we will come out of it more or less unscathed.

It is a crazy world we are living in these days and it is hard to look too far into the future knowing that anything can change in a blink of an eye. It is hard to do so, but we all have to be strong and just keep hanging in there until the worst of it is over.

How are you dealing with the changes that this pandemic has brought everyone? What do you do about it when people or events do not turn out the way you expect them to? Leave me a message and let me know, I would appreciate the advice!
