My Wishes for 2022

It feels like every year for almost all of my life, the new year means coming up with resolutions or goals for the year. It could be a list or your word for the year (or mantra) that you want to live by. For the most part, it is about reaching or striving for something for the new year. I have been doing this annually and honestly, I would like to do things differently for 2022. I don’t have any set goals for myself this year. No targets to achieve or kind of lifestyle or personality that I would like to uphold (because of that word for the year thing). I just want to go with the flow and see where life takes me.

We are already two years deep into this pandemic and I feel like having resolutions or goals for myself just feels like too much additional pressure for a person who, to put it bluntly, is just trying to survive during this COVID era. I think the best thing for me is just to do my best at whatever life throws my way and take things as they come. I’m not really into planning things these past couple of years because things often seem to change at the last minute because of this pandemic. Whenever I want to plan something, the news is almost always about a new variant of COVID or stricter protocols. In my experience, things that were not planned end up happening more than unplanned ones. I think that for 2022, I would rather just take whatever opportunities come and make the most of what every day has to offer. If it’s there, I’ll take it. If not, then better luck next time.

I’m not saying that it’s wrong to have a goal or a mantra for the year. If you have it in you to push for something like that, then by all means do so. I just feel that I have put too much stress on myself in the past and I think it’s better for my mental health to take a step back and take things as they come for a change.

If there is any list that I have for 2022, it is more about my wishes or dreams for everyone in general. It’s not a goal I want to achieve for myself but more about what I hope more people could have or experience for the year. Here are some of the things that I wish for in 2022:

Peaceful and Successful Elections in the Philippines

May 2022 will be crucial for the Philippines as it is the Presidential election. It means choosing new leaders (President, VP, Senators, Local government officials) who will be in charge for the next several years. Given how much harder life has been because of the pandemic, choosing the right leaders is more important now than ever before. I hope and pray that we can have peaceful and successful elections and select the right people for the job. I hope that they will be people who have the best intentions and have the interests of the country and its people at heart. People who will not just lead but will also inspire others and affect positive change for the country. Leaders who will also plan and lay down the foundation for the better future of the country and not just do things that are for their terms of office alone.

Positive Action Against Climate Change

As someone who has a job that is environment-related and is greatly affected by climate change, I believe that this is something that people all around the world need to pay attention to and take action on now. I have said this repeatedly but there is only so much that the public can do if big business and our world leaders do not do their part to ensure that what they are doing is what is best for the environment. As a Filipino, I know how harsh climate change can be. We have seen it recently with how bad Typhoon Odette has been in Visayas and Mindanao. Things will only get worse if we don’t do anything about it. Something needs to be done before it is too late. What world are we leaving behind to the next generation if we keep going on like this? Things need to change and they need to change now!

The End to the Pandemic

There’s so much that goes along with this wish. The end of the pandemic means so many things to me. It means being able to live without fear that you may have contracted COVID or that you are infecting someone with it unknowingly (when you’re asymptomatic). It means living a life as close to normal as it used to be. It means being able to travel and see many different places without fear of getting stranded somewhere because of the sudden change in protocols. It means being able to see family and friends, being able to hug and kiss them, and spending time with them. It means not wearing a mask 10 hours or more a day when you’re out at work. It means seeing people’s faces. Seeing them smile, laugh, and not have this fear that you could get sick by being mask-free. I hope that the day when all this is possible comes soon. I can’t wait to see it happen.

What are your thoughts about this new year? Do you have any dreams or wishes for the year ahead? Leave me a comment and share it with me!
