Pandemic Diaries: Lasco Smart Air Purifier

Early into this pandemic, I started having rashes on my skin. I attributed this to stress initially but then started to wonder if my childhood allergies were acting up again. I had been allergic to dust when I was younger and had similar rashes when a place was dirty/dusty. I would have asthma attacks from too much dust as well. I decided with the pandemic and the respiratory issues that it brings that I should take extra precautions. This was when I decided to buy an air purifier. After searching for and comparing many brands and their features, I decided to buy Lasco’s Smart Air Purifier.

In terms of price and features, I think that this brand and model is the one that is most worth my money. It is a seven-stage purifier featuring a Washable Mesh Pre-Filter, Cold Catalyst Filter, Antibacterial Filter, Honeycomb Activated Carbon Filter, High-Efficiency 99.97%HEPA Filter, 254 nm UV-C Filter, and Negative Ions. It is the only purifier I found with that many stages of filtration for that price range.

For those who are interested in the technical capabilities of this purifier, here are some facts about the product that might interest you:

  • Coverage Area = 40 square meters
  • 99.9% PM 2.5 Purification Rate, 97.6% Germ Purification Rate, 96.2% Formaldehyde Purification Rate
  • Negative Ion: 20 million pcs/ cm3
  • Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR): 350 m3/h
  • Accurate PM 2.5 Indicator
  • Connection Required: WIFI 2.4 GHz Router, will not work on 5 GHz Connection
  • Power: 40 - 85 W Maximum Speed
  • Voltage: 220 V
  • Main Material: ABS Plastic
  • Cord Length: 1.8 meters
  • Product Dimension: 66.5cm x 37cm x 19.5cm
  • Weight: 8.5 Kg

It can be controlled wirelessly via an app or through Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa or you can simply press the icons on the screen when you want to use it. It has three-speed levels that adjust according to air quality (if you use the auto mode) and you can also put it on Sleep Mode so that the lights turn off and the purifier’s noise level lowers.

The purifier claims to be effective against dust, viruses, bacteria, dust mites, mold, pollen, pet dander, smoke, lint, and odor. So far, I think that it has been highly effective since I have not been having rashes since I have started using it. I also used to have issues with odors coming from our neighbor’s home (they sell food, so I smell what they are cooking often) but now I do not have that problem anymore. The most interesting comment I have gotten from using the purifier is when my nephew remarked that my room smells different from the rest of the house. He said it smelled good, but it was not any particular scent. I guess that means that my room smelled clean!

It surprises me how effective the purifier is when on auto mode. It automatically turns red when it detects the need to purify the air and the fan goes faster until it returns to the green (aka clean) color. It automatically purifies even the fumes from when I spray perfume or even alcohol.

I sleep with the purifier on these days because it has helped me to breathe easier when it is turned on. I am thinking of getting another purifier for my nephew’s room because he has allergic rhinitis, and it might help him to have it in his room when he sleeps. I just wish they had a smaller version because this purifier is a little large and my nephew’s room is probably too small for it.

The Lasco Smart Air Purifier is available at their official store in Lazada.
